GARLICSMITHS SOFTNECK GARLIC CULTIVARS

Our softneck garlic cultivars belong to the subspecies Allium Sativum Sativum. These are the easiest and most productive of all garlics to grow. They produce small vigorous plants which adapt quickly to new environments, growing well in both northern and southern climates. There are four distinct families of softneck garlic which are commonly known as Artichoke, Turban, Asiatic, and Silverskin.

ARTICHOKES
Artichokes are large bulbed, mild flavored garlics which usually have two layers of large cloves. They often produce large bulbils which protrude from the lowest six inches of the stem, and they will produce a hardneck flower stalk if the plants feel stressed. Well cured Artichokes will store very well. One pound of Artichoke bulbs will yield 35 to 45 plantable cloves. Please CLICK HERE to see the Artichokes we offer.

Our Artichokes are priced at half pound $9 and one pound $16.

TURBANS
Turbans usually have a unique sweet and hot flavor that sets them apart from other garlics. They form large, purple pinstriped bulbs with a single circle of large, nearly round cloves. Turbans all put up a flower stalk with a pointed, turban shaped bulbil capsule at the end. They are the earliest maturing of all garlics and need to be harvested immediately because the bulb wrappers deteriorate rapidly in the soil after maturity. They have a relatively short storage life. One pound of Turban bulbs will yield 45 to 55 plantable cloves. Please CLICK HERE to see the Turbans we offer.

Our Turbans are priced at half pound $9 and one pound $16.
